President Donald Trump has introduced a new immigration initiative known as the “Gold Card,” targeted to wealthy business owners and nationals globally as a clear pathway to US citizenship through a $5 million investment. This proposal aims to replace the existing EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, which requires a minimum investment of $1 million in US businesses that create or preserve at least ten jobs. Investment Requirement: Applicants must contribute $5 million directly to the U.S. government. This substantial investment is intended to attract high-net-worth individuals and generate significant revenue to address the national debt.

Pathway to Citizenship for all nationals

Vetting Process: Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick emphasized that applicants would undergo thorough vetting to ensure they are “world-class global citizens.” This process aims to maintain the integrity of the program and prevent misuse.

The Gold Card could potentially attract foreign investment in the US, potentially generating trillions of dollars in revenue creating more skilled labor. This influx of capital is aimed to reduce national debt and stimulate economic growth.

The concept of Golden Visa is not new as similar programs exist in other countries, such as in Antigua and Barbuda and Malta, with varying investment thresholds.

The EB-5 program was created by Congress, and any substantial changes or replacements would generally require legislative approval.
